SPECIAL EVENT - GRAHAM RIB THROWDOWN

The Graham County Historical Society is sponsoring the GRAHAM RIB THROWDOWN to be held on March 10 & 11, 2023, at the Graham County Fairgrounds. This is a Barbeque Championship Series (BCS) Sanction Competition with proceeds to help reestablish our Graham County Historical Museum. The Fairgrounds is located at 527 E. Armory Road on the east side of Highway 191 south of Safford, Arizona. APPLY NOW!

Michael Reimann of AZ Barbeque will be coordinating the contestants for the event. You can contact him at 602-363-5196. Michael can fill you in on registration information, rules and sign-up fee. However, just to give you a heads-up; the BBQ event is held on Saturday the 11th with your sample BBQ Ribs to be turned in by 12 noon for judging.

Contestants will need to provide their own pork ribs for this BBQ Championship Series Sanctioned Competition. In conjunction with the official judging there will be a People’s Choice from 12 to 3pm in which the people will pick the BBQ Ribs they like the best. So, we encourage all those competing to bring plenty of ribs for people to sample. You’ll be able to receive a $1 back per rib for each ticket you collect from the people receiving and judging your BBQ Rib.

Besides those that regularly compete in the BBQ Championship Series we want to encourage locals to compete. There will be prize money involved, in fact we have set aside $5,000 in prize money for this event.

On Friday we are having an Appetizer and Dessert Contest for the general public to compete and partake of the sample (for donations) with winners receiving prize money. We ask that you provide 200 samples for people to taste and judge. To make this a little interesting for the Dessert Contest we are requiring you to incorporate some form of “graham” cracker in your dessert.

There will be an indoor Cornhole Tournament with registration to start at 12 noon on Saturday with a start time at 2PM. It will be a team event at $40 per team entry fee. Pete Gauna will be the event coordinator and can be reached at 602-316-0953. And there will be prize money.

There will also be music, liquid refreshments, vendors and raffles.

Please remember this is a Fund-Raising event to help reestablishing our Graham County Historical Society’s Museum, so please come and enjoy this event with us.
